A TASTE OF SHARU

SHARU DELILKAN

CEO

Through Sharu Loves Hats we are able to bring together all the networks and experience I’ve gathered over more than three decades.

My hats are a reflection of my business. I wear different virtual hats and am inspired by work that’s poignant and meaningful.

It pains me to see the amount of effort that goes into original theatre. I want to change the game by extending the life of theatre productions beyond an often fleeting debut season. Through Sharu Loves Hats I would love to extend the life of these gems through national and international tours.

My number one business tip is never take “No” for an answer. Always think of different ways to achieve your goal.

I am thrilled to collaborate with Sharu as a videographer and visual record keeper and storyteller.

The projects Sharu is leading are exciting and important. In addition, being part of promoting and telling the Exclusive story is close to my heart.

Having worked as a television director for nearly 30 years, and as a director and videographer for the past 10 years, my original love in life was theatre. So when I met Sharu at Te Reo Māori classes, and the idea to collaborate came up, I was in!

The creative process and digital world that we live in are perfect partners in engaging and supporting live theatre and performance. I am fully committed to working on projects that bring me joy, and to be able to capture and celebrate the creative process with my cameras is definitely a source of great joy.

I am Sharu Loves Hats’ web designer and I look forward to working further on her branding and to support the company’s exciting projects albeit online, broadcasting, film or in print.

We were fortunate to meet through Art Venture and together we are utilising multimedia, web and social media to promote arts in the online landscape.

I am particularly interested in her fundraising work that is concentrated around mental health. Recent Black Dog Relief projects include A Cabaret for Robbie Tripe and Souls of Solidarity Cabaret.

Through my connections in the dance videography world I was able to work with Sharu on Asian But Brown – Thai Cultural Workshop. I felt incredibly welcomed by the warm and genuine environment she created for everyone involved in this project. Personally, having mixed heritage myself being Samoan and Pākehā, the story I have captured resonates with me far beyond the camera.

I look forward to visually documenting more of the insightful and culturally significant work Sharu produces. Her ability to authentically empower others aligns with the values of my film collective. The care and understanding she shows for all creatives involved truly makes the time working for her an engaging and enjoyable process.

I enjoy supporting Sharu Loves Hats to supplement her communications knowledge with my intimate knowledge of the Southland/Otago area. One of the current projects we are working on together is supporting a proposed tour of Renee Liang’s The Quiet Room.

I had the pleasure of working with Sharu during the Sharu Loves Hats Southland/Otago tour of A Boy Wonder back in 2015. At the time I was just heading back to work after the birth of my first child by way of helping out Venture Southland with the Southland Festival of the Arts as a communications coordinator. And working with someone as well-versed in the media as Sharu was such a pleasure. Her gleeful love for all things theatre, as well as an insider’s understanding of how the media works, was such a perfect match for me as I dipped my toes back into that world.

We’ve since kept in firm contact, and I love that Sharu has such a collaborative spirit, is generous with her time and knowledge, and is always eager to hear a local perspective.
